Cycling Metric

What is Aerobic Decoupling (Pw:HR)?

The percentage drift between power and heart rate during the two halves of a ride, measuring aerobic endurance.

Deep Dive

Aerobic Decoupling measures how your heart rate responds to steady power over time. In a long steady effort, if heart rate rises significantly while power stays the same (known as 'cardiac drift'), it indicates a lack of aerobic endurance for that duration.

Formula
((Pw:HR first half) - (Pw:HR second half)) / (Pw:HR first half)

Why It Matters

Low decoupling (<5%) indicates a strong aerobic base. High decoupling suggests you need more base miles before tackling higher intensity intervals.
