What is Training Stress Score (TSS)?

A composite number that takes into account the duration and intensity of a workout to estimate the overall training load and physiological stress created by that training session.

Deep Dive

Training Stress Score® (TSS) is a way of expressing the workload from a training session. It is the product of the workout's intensity and duration. It is based on the premise that you can only maintain your FTP (Functional Threshold Power) for one hour, which would result in 100 TSS points.

Formula
TSS = (sec x NP x IF) / (FTP x 3600) x 100

Why It Matters

TSS allows you to quantify your training load over time. By tracking daily and weekly TSS, you can manage your fitness (CTL), fatigue (ATL), and form (TSB) to peak for events and avoid overtraining.
